5 killed at Saturday's Indiana State Fair, between Sara Bareilles and Sugarland

As the Indy Star relates the timeline, at 4:45pm Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a warning about potentially severe thunderstorms. At 8:15pm, Grandstand opening act Sara Bareilles finished her set and got off stage, remarking what a beautiful night it was. At 8:43p, a state police commander and fair's executive director decided that the weather was threatening enough to evacuate the crowd, but at about the same time, WLHK's Bob Richards announced that headliner Sugarland would perform, as planned, at 8:45pm.

He apparently also warned that concertgoers should be ready to find shelter, if the weather got threatening. Then at 8:44 - as the Indy Star's site shows in a video from YouTube - a sudden violent gust of wind "toppled the rigging above the Grandstand stage", and it came down into the crowd. None of the performers were hurt, but five people died, and as many as 40 others, including some stage crew, were taken to area hospitals. The Fair is canceled for today (Sunday, 8/14).
